A Monday Reflection

Story after story recounts the destruction and devastation of the fires in the Amazon Rain forest and in Australia.  Seems like some section of California is always under some type of natural threat.  In our efforts to control nature, we have become our own worst enemies.  Probably the same argument can be made for our spiritual lives.

Much is written and taught in contemporary society about a need for balance.  We know what unbalanced is—we are distorted and lack the right environment where we can thrive and grow.  So, what about the environment that surrounds our soul.  Is there soul space and soul time?  Is there soul silence to relax in our creator?  Environment is everything when it comes to making things grow.  Environment is what makes the conditions for growth possible.  Is our soul confined by our busy-ness; is there enough silence?

Don't wait!  Monday drags us into a hurricane of busy-ness.  Carve sometime this weekend to reflect, get quiet, read, pray and practice the presence of God.  In fact, why not read Pope Francis’ Encyclical Laudato Si (On the Care of our Common Home).
