March 10

Dear SJW Parishioners:

Welcome to the 4th week of Lent!  These days of reform and renewal are passing quickly.  Let us all commit ourselves to continuing our Lenten journey through acts of kindness to those around us.  Let us deepen our prayer life in the days remaining of this important season.  Let us give of our hard-earned treasure to our parish and other charities.  Let us fast from whatever hinders us from a closer relationship with Jesus.

This 4th Sunday of Lent is called LAETARE Sunday.  That Latin word means “rejoicing.”  We rejoice that we are over halfway through the season of Lent.  We are ever closer to Holy Week and the celebration of our salvation.  May we reflect on that all-important word this week:

L    is for learningHave we learned more about Jesus this Lent through reflection?

A    is for activeHow active are we in our parish?

E    is for energeticAre we more energetic these days in our faith life?

T    is for timeHow much time do we spend with Jesus each day?

A    is for atoneDo we atone for our sins through the Sacrament of Reconciliation?

R    is for reconcileWith whom do we need to reconcile?

E    is for eternallyAre we eternally grateful that we are Catholic Christians?

Amidst all that we experience during our regular days this March, let us never forget to be those “LAETARE” people for the Lord, the One who gave of Himself for the forgiveness of our sins.  Happy week of rejoicing to you and to all you meet!

Your “LAETARE” Pastor,

Father Joe
