Browsing Fr. Joe the Worker

January 21

Dear SJW Parishioners:

On Monday, January 22nd, is the Day of Prayer for the Legal Protection of Unborn Children.  This day calls each of us to pray intensely for the protection of ALL life, especially in the womb.

Yes, Roe v. Wade was overturned, but now each state may enact laws/ordinances to either protect life or ensure the right to choose an abortion.  Unfortunately, our own state of Illinois gives much, much protection for abortions to occur.  Our governor is proud of that.  How sad.

As Catholic Christians, we are called to be a light in the darkness when it comes to abortion and its availability so readily.  As Catholic Christians, we are called to work for LIFE to be protected in all forms.

As Catholic Christians, the respect and dignity of lives on death row, lives lived in poverty, lives subjected to the evil of war, lives experiencing the ravages of climate change, lives sold in child trafficking---all are to be given the right to live freely and abundantly.

How do we treat LIFE around us?  Are we true disciples of LIFE for our God who gave us that LIFE?  Do we respect our own selves?

Let us pray this Monday and each day for LIFE in our country and world.  May the violence and crime against life be over.  May the senseless acts of hatred and prejudice cease.  May the killing of innocent life in war and strife be ended.

The precious gift of LIFE.  And that is what life is---a gift!!  From God.  Let us use that gift to make sure that His gift of LIFE is lived as He would want it lived---by ALL!

 Your Pastor, Father Joe
