December 3

Dear Parishioners of SJW:

HAPPY NEW YEAR!  Yes, you read correctly.  It is the NEW YEAR liturgically in our Catholic Church.  This weekend is the 1st Sunday of Advent, the beginning of another year of giving praise and glory to our Lord God.

Advent is that special time in which we recall the anticipation of the Old Testament people who were awaiting the 1st Coming of the Savior.  For centuries they believed and hoped for the Messiah.  And then, it happened.  Christ, the Promised Redeemer, was born in Bethlehem.

We are those New Testament people who wait also.  We await the Second Coming of Jesus at the end of time.  Our “Advent” is anticipating the arrival of Christ when the world as we know it will end.  And just as the OT people had no idea of Jesus’s Coming at Bethlehem, we have no clue when His 2nd Coming will occur.

ADVENT and us.  How will we wait for the Coming?  What will we do to prepare ourselves daily?

How about a daily MASS during Advent?  A beautiful way to prepare our hearts and souls.   8:30 a.m. each weekday except Wednesday.

How about reading SCRIPTURE?  A great way to deepen the power of God’s Word in our lives.

How about praying the ROSARY?  A wonderful way to be silent with Mary and her Son.

How about RECONCILIATION?  A splendid opportunity to change our lives and mend our ways. 3:15pm each Saturday, and a Communal Penance Service on Tuesday, Dec. 12 at 6:00pm.

May these days of expectation and waiting fill you with joy, peace, and a deepened sense of Jesus, our Prince of Peace and our Sun of Justice.

Your Pastor, Father Joe
