Browsing Fr. Joe the Worker

Parishioners of SJW:

Another month begins.  Summer is fading away & autumn is on the horizon.

This Monday, September 5th, is Labor Day in the United States.  This is a day to celebrate labor & those who help our country function, run, & operate as a nation.

We salute those dedicated workers who show up every day for their jobs.

We salute those who earn their keep by the sweat of their brow.

We salute those who go to work, not particularly liking their careers, but they go anyway.

We salute those people who work several jobs to make ends meet.

We salute those employees who work at companies who don’t appreciate them.

We salute those workers who labor in conditions that are less than ideal.

We encourage more people to work in the workforce in our country.

We encourage more workers to be a bit friendlier when they work with the public.

We encourage more bosses to be more compassionate & understanding.

We encourage all companies to put their workers first, not the bottom line.

We encourage retired workers to enjoy their rest from their labors.

We encourage those unemployed to not give up looking for a job.

And, on this Labor Day, let us think about how we work & labor in our faith, especially since we bear the name of JOSEPH, THE WORKER.

Would we hire ourselves as disciples of Jesus by the way we make Him known in the world?

Are we proud of our “work record” as Catholics?

Do we give our all for our boss, Jesus Christ?

Can we pledge to be better laborers in God’s Kingdom?

Will we rest with the Lord in prayer on this Labor Day?

Does working for our Lord give us satisfaction & joy & a sense of worth?

Happy Labor Day, all!

Your fellow laborer,

Father Joe
