Dear Parishioners of St. Joseph the Worker:

Welcome to the HOLIEST week of our liturgical year!!  We enter Holy Week, the days we remember what our Lord Jesus endured for our salvation.

PALM SUNDAY:  Jesus enters Jerusalem to be crowned King, but not an earthly King, but a heavenly King.  The people wave palm branches in front of him to acknowledge His presence and entry into the holy city.

HOLY THURSDAY:  The Passover meal is celebrated by Jesus with His apostles.  However, the meal becomes the first Eucharist ever held, as Jesus changes that ancient ritual into the new one where His Body and His Blood are consumed.  Also, he ordains His first priests that evening, along with giving them an example of washing the feet of others.

GOOD FRIDAY:  The day Christ dies on the Cross for our salvation.

HOLY SATURDAY:  During the day we remember Jesus in the tomb.  That evening is the greatest evening in the entire Church’s year, as the Resurrection is celebrated.

EASTER SUNDAY:  This is the day the Lord has made!  Christ is risen, and we are to rejoice with Alleluias.

This richness of this week lies in its traditions and practices.  The Church is most Church during these glorious days.  Please don’t miss them.  Look what Jesus did for you.  Come and celebrate your salvation in Christ!

Your fellow Holy Week traveler,

Father Joe
