Dear Parishioners:

This coming Wednesday we enter the most holy season of Lent.  For 6 weeks we are challenged to change our lives, become better Catholics, turn away from our sins, and grow in our prayer life.  The Lenten days are ones given to us by our Church to walk with the Lord Jesus in faith as He walked the Way of the Cross for each of us.

To help us celebrate this most holy season, there will be several additions which will hopefully draw us closer to the Lord.  For example, on Monday evenings there will be a Mass at 5:30 pm., followed by Stations of the Cross at 6:00 pm.  This will replace the 8:30am. Mass that day.  (Please note: if there is a funeral on a Monday during Lent, there WILL STILL BE a 5:30pm. Mass)

On Friday evenings during Lent, the Stations of the Cross will be celebrated at 5:30 pm., followed by Evening Prayer at 6:00 pm.

And, on Ash Wednesday, March 2nd, there will be Masses at 8:30 am. & 5:30 pm.  This is the traditional day of being marked with the ashes, as a sign of our willingness to die to ourselves during the Lenten days of purification.

Please try to be “extra” active in your faith the 40 days of Lent.  May PRAYER be a daily action.  May FASTING be a part of your journey, whether from food or from a particular sin.  May ALMSGIVING be done by you, giving of you resources to SJW parish or a charity of your choice.

Your fellow Lenten traveler,

Fr. Joe
