Dear Parishioners of SJW Parish:
We are in the month of October, the Right to Life month in our Catholic Church. We have these special days to contemplate the beauty of LIFE given to us by God, the Creator of ALL life.
In this day and age in which we live, how unfortunate this great gift of LIFE is disrespected, thought of as cheap and expendable. Many times, people don’t see how precious life is, how we are given the opportunity to use each breath to give praise to the Author of life, God. How we are given the opportunity to live each day to better the world given to us by the same Creator Lord. How we are given the opportunity to protect ALL LIFE around us. How we are given the opportunity to look at ourselves and see our own LIFE as that gift we are able to unwrap each day and appreciate ever more so.
If we look at society these days, we see how little life is valued---drive-by shootings; atrocities of war; abortion on demand; mercy killing; poverty; destruction of the environment; sex trafficking; capital punishment; abuse of any kind, and many, many more examples. LIFE is called to be SACRED. LIFE is given by God, and only He has the right to take it. Yes, only God does. We are the stewards of the LIFE He gives us. If only we could keep that in mind. If only we could “STEWARD” better. We are to take care of LIFE, not destroy it, disrespect it, harm it, etc.
This week, let us all take some moments of our LIFE and reflect on how we may use each breath to ensure that our life and others’ lives are better because of our presence and love. Will we commit ourselves to, as Jesus said, “Love each other as we love ourselves?” Let us make that our goal every day, in every action we take and in every utterance we make.
LIFE. LET US LOVE IT.
LIFE. LET US RESPECT IT.
LIFE. LET US GIVE THANKS FOR IT.
LIFE. LET US NEVER TAKE IT FOR GRANTED.
LIFE. LET US USE IT TO BETTER THE WORLD.
LIFE. LET US DAILY ENRICH IT.
As your pastor, I wish you the best week of LIFE you can have!!
Your Pastor, Father Joe
