Dear SJW Parishioners:
Welcome to the last days of October. Where has this month gone? In less than a month it will be Thanksgiving, with another month after that being Christmas. HELP!
This coming Friday, November 1st, is a Holy Day of Obligation, as we celebrate All Saints Day. Masses here will be at 8:30am. and 5:30pm., with Adoration from 7:15-8:15am. and after Mass until 11:30am., closing with Benediction. To disregard coming to Mass on Nov. 1st is a serious sin. Please make sure you come and give praise to God for His Presence in the countless saints who have graced our world over the centuries, as well as those Saints present in our very midst.
The next day, November 2nd, is All Souls Day. This day commemorates all those who have gone before us marked with the sign of faith. Our prayer on Nov. 2nd, especially, is that our deceased will be in heaven one day. Also, a time to pray for those who are in purgatory, awaiting total purgation (cleansing). Mass of Remembrance on November 2nd at 10:00am.
The entire month of November is the time to remember all those who have touched our lives and are now with the Lord. Our prayers here and now can assist in the deceased entering eternal life. We are called to never forget their impact on our lives.
How are we doing at being those SAINTS for Jesus Christ? We can see our entire life as a journey to become holier and holier each day. The call to saintliness isn’t just for the Pope, or Bishops, or Priests, or Sisters. EVERYONE should see the Lord’s invitation to become closer to Him. How can we say no to the giver of our very life?
Do we ever think about the end of our life and where we will be? Do we see the connection to what we do daily with where we will end up when we die? It is not something we may want to consider, but we must. Our life here on earth is transitory. Our life here is like a piece of sand on the seashore compared to the eternal life of heaven. I bet all of us want to be in heaven; but, what are we doing to respond correctly to the Lord’s invitation to join Him in eternal peace?
May our Catholic faith lead us to be SAINTS. May our Catholic faith inspire us to pray for the dead and their eternal life.
Your Pastor, Father Joe
