Dear Parishioners of St. Joseph the Worker:
When was the last time you enjoyed time with a very special friend? The two of you reminiscing on the good times you had together. Spending moments over a delicious lunch or dinner, savoring each bite and moment with that special someone. Maybe it has been exercising together, riding bikes or motorcycles. It could be just being together and saying nothing, enjoying the quiet around you.
In this fast-paced world, to just BE with someone is a precious gift. With so much noise invading where we are, we miss the silence around us, don’t we? People today seem to have a difficult time with not being “wired” in some way. Look at young people —always having earbuds. Look at others at a gym or workout facility —almost all have music playing in their ears. It seems we are uncomfortable with silence anymore. We drown out not only noise these days, but silence as well.
Enter ADORATION. The Catholic Church has seen a rejuvenation of Adoration in the last decade or so. Many Catholics now gather to adore our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament, often in complete silence. This form of worship enables us to just BE with that special someone---JESUS CHRIST. We sit or kneel in His Presence and revel in being before the Author of Life. Our soul is in tune with the Essence of Life itself.
Look at the first paragraph again. Now, imagine that friend spoken of being Jesus Christ. Imagine spending precious time with our PRECIOUS LORD. The time spent in Adoration is time spent getting to know our friend, Jesus, better. And we don’t need to say anything —often words get in the way. What we need to do many times is just listen to His voice in the SILENCE of our hearts. He speaks to us during these silent moments in Adoration.
Each 3rd Monday of the month, the next one being October 21st, is Adoration time at SJW. From 6:00-7:00pm, the Monstrance with the Sacred Host, the Body of Jesus, is on our altar for us to adore in prayer. And we do it in silence! This hour is precious time to get to know and appreciate even more the Lord whose Body was broken for us on the Cross. Also, there is Adoration time each 1st Friday of the month, from 7:15-8:15am and 9:15-11:30am, closing with Benediction.
Please come to adore. Please set aside time to be with a friend, who just happens to be Jesus Himself. I assure you that your time spent with Him in quiet Adoration will be time that enriches and strengthens your relationship with the Lord of all Life!
Your Pastor, Father Joe
P.S. Thanks for all the birthday wishes, prayers, goodies and gifts!
