November 26

Dear Parishioners of St. Joseph the Worker:

Welcome to the last week of our liturgical year!  We celebrate this Sunday, Nov. 26th, the Feast of Christ the King.  Our Lord, Jesus Christ, is the eternal and universal King of the Universe, reigning over us from heaven.

This great Feast should have us reflecting on our response to Christ the King.  How do we obey Him each and every day?  Do we give Him the praise and glory He deserves, especially by gathering each weekend for Mass?   What type of servant of Jesus the King are we?

This Monday, Nov. 27th, is the monthly meeting of the SJW Pastoral Council.  This Council is composed of nine lay members of the parish, plus Sr. Judy and myself.  The purpose of this parish group is to listen to the needs of the people and help our faith community to be the best example of Jesus that it can be. The spiritual aspect of SJW is such an important part of our existence, and this Council is foremost in making sure of that.  Please know that they are there to help you and listen to any of your concerns, suggestions, and thoughts.  The members are:  Pat Kornfeld (Chair), Debbie Shawgo (Vice-Chair), Ben Kwedar (Secretary), Grace Ann Thomas, Liz Reef, Jennifer Trapani, Gavin Davis, Rob Flesher, and Rachel Green.

How do we grow in our spiritual lives each day so that we are full and active members of the parish?

This Friday, Dec. 1st, is another day for Adoration here---7:15 to 8:15 a.m., plus 9:15 to 11:30 a.m., closing with Benediction.  Our Catholic Church has a long tradition of adoring our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament.  It is a time for reflection, prayer, praise, and glory.  If you have never tried this form of prayer, please come and spend time with Jesus.  He is inviting you to come and just be with Him.

Is Jesus a part of your daily schedule?

This coming Saturday, Dec. 2nd, is the retreat for the Restored Order class, those young people preparing for the Sacraments of Confirmation and 1st Eucharist.  They will celebrate these two special Sacraments at the Cathedral on Jan. 16th.  The retreat is a time for these children to see how Jesus is calling them to Himself more and more each day.  They will grow in their Catholic faith, given to them the day they were baptized.  Please pray for them as they continue their journey to being full members of our Church.  We are very proud of them all, as well as their teachers, parents, and sponsors.

Will we challenge ourselves to be the best examples of faith-filled Christians for these Restored Order young people?

May you all have a great week as Catholic followers of Christ, who is our Eternal and Universal King!

Your Pastor, Father Joe
