Dear Parishioners of St. Joseph the Worker:
This week we embark on a 40-day pilgrimage. This week, beginning on Wednesday, we enter the season of Lent. This week we commit ourselves to becoming holier in God’s sight.
Ash Wednesday is a few days away. We will begin our Lenten journey by celebrating Mass that day at 8:30am and 5:30pm. Please mark your calendars now to join us at the greatest prayer the Church offers, the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, during which we will be signed with ashes. These ashes will tell ourselves and the world that we are willing to die to ourselves over the next weeks so that the Lord can raise us up from the ashes into new and more glorious disciples of His.
What will we do during the Lenten season? Will we reform our hearts and souls, turning away from sin and to the Lord? Will penance of some sort be practiced by us to show that we are serious about reforming our lives? Will sacrifice be evident in our actions, attesting to the fact that we don’t always need what we think we do?
We will have opportunities at SJW to grow in our lives of faith, beginning Ash Wednesday and continuing until Holy Week, such as:
MONDAYS: Mass & Stations at 6:00pm.
TUESDAYS, THURSDAYS, & FRIDAYS: Mass at 8:30am.
FRIDAYS (except March 21st): Evening Prayer & Stations at 5:00pm.
FRIDAY, MARCH 21st: Living Stations by Youth at 7:00pm.
ADULT ED. SESSIONS with Fr. Joe:
Thursdays (March 6th-April 10th) from 5:30pm to 6:30pm. Topic: The 7 Sacraments
Let us all open ourselves to the call of the Lord to change our hearts and souls. Let us look differently come Holy Week. May our Lenten Lord inspire us each moment to live Lenten lives in His sight.
Your Lenten Companion, Father Joe
