Browsing Fr. Joe the Worker

June 23

Dear SJW Parishioners:

Welcome to another week of faith!  The summer is passing quickly, isn’t it?  How does that happen?  Need to put a “pause” button in effect.

This coming week at St. Joseph the Worker is our annual Vacation Bible School.  This is a wonderful week when we welcome so many young people to learn about Jesus.  Through skits, prayer time, snacks, games, etc., the children experience faith, community, love, and service.

I thank all those who have prepared our VBS this year.  For months, they have met to discuss how the week could be a reality for us here.  And during these upcoming days, volunteers will gather to make sure that all those participating enjoy the time they spend with us.

No matter what age we are, we can grow and celebrate our Catholic faith.  These youngsters in our midst this week can challenge us “oldsters” to make sure each time we come to Mass and celebrate our faith that we do just that---celebrate the Lord’s presence and thank Him for His many blessings upon us.

Also, as we have seen flowers and grass grow since spring, we are to see ourselves growing more into the Lord.  We need to “water” our hearts and souls with the faith given to us when that life-giving water was poured over us at our baptism.  We are to be concerned with the growth that should be occurring in our faith lives.  We can look to those children joining us for VBS.  They will grow so much physically over the summer, and hopefully spiritually through VBS and coming to Mass.  Let us be those examples to and for them of disciples of Jesus getting bigger and stronger each and every day.

Have a good week of growth.  Have a wonderful week of celebration of your Catholic faith.  Have a tremendous yearning to be the best and most fruitful follower of Jesus that you can be.  These things should keep us all busy this week, wouldn’t you agree?

Your Pastor, Father Joe
