Dear Parishioners of SJW:
We are quickly coming to the end of the Easter season in our Catholic Church. This weekend we celebrate the Ascension of our Lord into heaven. And next weekend is Pentecost, the close of our season.
The Church gives us these weeks to celebrate and revel in the Resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. It is not just on Easter Sunday that we rejoice. The ALLELUIAS ring out for seven weeks. We call to mind the greatest miracle ever—Jesus alive forever!
If we think of the Ascension, we remember that Jesus left the earth to be with His Father in heaven. Jesus commissioned His Apostles to go forth, baptize, teach, and heal in His Name. And so, they did. Jesus was no longer on this earth in the flesh. He returned to the Father and is seated at His right hand.
As we celebrate this special Solemnity in our Church, let us be aware of OUR call to go forth and be witnesses to our Catholic faith and to the Risen Lord.
A Do we ASK someone to come to Mass with us?
S Do we SEEK ways to make our Lord known with others?
C Do we COME before Jesus with our sins for our own spiritual healing?
E Do we use EVERY moment of the day in praise of Christ?
N Do we NOT give in when things get rough?
S Do we SUFFER for the sake of Jesus and the Church?
I Do we IMMERSE ourselves daily in the life-giving waters of our Baptism?
O Do we OFTEN pray?
N Do we feel the NEED to share our Catholic faith with those around us?
May we see the call to be the presence of the Ascended Lord in our world today.
May we see the call to be the presence of the Ascended Lord wherever we are.
May we see the call to be the presence of the Ascended Lord in whatever way we can.
Enjoy these last days of the Church’s celebration of the Easter event!
Your Pastor, Father Joe
