January 19

Dear Parishioners of St. Joseph the Worker:

This week is a busy one for several reasons.  Let me explain.

This Sunday, January 19th, is our annual Pancake & Sausage Breakfast.  We are so grateful to Rodger Anderson and his faithful crew for all they do to make this event such a success.  The Holy Family Food Pantry in Springfield, which is a part of Catholic Charities, is the recipient of the proceeds.  How generous of our parish and TEAM to think of those less fortunate.  Hopefully, you will attend the Breakfast and support it.  Thanks to all who have volunteered to set up and tear down, bake treats/goodies, wait tables, serve drinks/food, prepare the food, or anything else.  Bravo to you!

This Monday, January 20th, is the commemoration of Martin Luther King, Jr.  The day calls each of us to a greater respect of all races, people of color, minorities, etc.  Dr. King gave his very life in the advancement of justice for the poor, underprivileged, and downtrodden.  He was a prophet of peace and justice for our modern time.

*What will we do to continue his legacy?

*How do we treat someone who is different than we are?

*Is prejudice/bias part of our lives in any way?

*Do we seek peace instead of consternation or upheaval?

This Wednesday, January 22nd, is the Day of Prayer for the Legal Protection of Unborn Children.  This is the day to pray for the unborn and all who may not be given the protection, dignity, worth, and life they deserve.  It is a shame, in one sense, that we need a day like this----shouldn’t we protect the least vulnerable in our society, the children in the womb, every day?  Shouldn’t a respect for all life be in the DNA of everyone?

*Please take some moments this Wednesday in prayer for our country to respect all life.

*Please seek forgiveness from the Lord if you have not been a life-giver to someone.

*Please be an example of the Lord’s love this week to a family member or neighbor.

*Please ask Jesus to deepen your care for your own life.

Enjoy each day that the Lord gives you!

Your Pastor, Father Joe
