Browsing Fr. Joe the Worker

February 23

Dear Parishioners of St. Joseph the Worker:

We are almost at the end of the second month of 2025.  Where has this year gone so far?  It seems that each month zooms by, especially this month since it is the shortest one.

Have you ever asked yourself this question:  WHAT DO I DO EACH DAY OF THE YEAR TO MAKE IT BETTER?  It is a simple question.  Yet, it is one that we may disregard, or not want to answer, or simply refuse to consider.  Why is that?

The Lord blesses us EACH DAY with ANOTHER DAY OF LIFE.  It seems we are so busy with so many things that we don’t take time to breathe the freshness of a new day.  It seems we are so distracted with our many responsibilities that we let the goodness of a fresh morning pass us by.  It seems we are pulled in ten directions, but we don’t direct ourselves to the Lord.

I think it is ironic that 100 years ago, and even farther back, people had more time for people, for God, for country, for appreciation.  And if we think about those times, look what they didn’t have:  easy transportation; washing machines; microwaves; modern phones; power lawnmowers; computers; air-conditioning; and much more.  People had to work harder at tasks than we do today and spent more time doing them, YET—they had more time to talk, visit, pray, etc.  The leisure of yesteryear would be a desired commodity for many today.

We are so task-oriented that we miss life itself many times.  And with that, we miss the Creator of our life—JESUS CHRIST.  We do this and that all the time, but our “this” and “that” don’t always include the Lord.

Let us challenge ourselves to take TIME to pray.  Let us challenge ourselves to take TIME for service to others.  Let us challenge ourselves to take TIME to help ourselves be the best selves we can be.  For if we do those challenges, then our days will be better, more fulfilling, more God-oriented, more productive in what really matters.

TIME.  Yes, it is TIME to take TIME and use our TIME to make ourselves, our families, our parish, our nation, and our world better.  No TIME like the present to start!

Your Pastor, Father Joe

Make Time!
