Dear Parishioners of St. Joseph the Worker:
Welcome to the second month of 2025! The first one sure flew by, didn’t it?
This week we have several liturgical celebrations worth commenting on. So, let’s get to it.
Feb. 2—Presentation of the Lord
This Feast is celebrated as the weekend celebration this year. It commemorates when Jesus was presented in the Temple and consecrated to the Lord.
How do we present ourselves each day to the Lord God?
Feb. 3—St. Blaise, Bishop & Martyr
St. Blaise was a Bishop in Armenia who was martyred during the persecution of Licinius in the early 4th century. He is associated with the healing of the throats, which the Church commemorates by blessing throats on Feb. 3.
How do we use our speech---positively at all times?
Feb. 5—St. Agatha, Virgin & Martyr
St. Agatha lived in Sicily in the 3rd century and was martyred for her faith around the middle of that century. She is revered for her virginity amidst temptation, persecution and torture.
How do we resist temptation in our lives?
Feb. 6—St. Paul Miki & Companions, Martyrs
St. Paul Miki and twenty-five companions were crucified due to their Catholic faith in Nagasaki, Japan in 1597. They were canonized by Pope Pius IX in 1862.
How do we remain faithful to God when adversity comes our way?
Let us use these Saints as models for how we are to conduct ourselves as disciples of Jesus Christ, the One presented in the Temple.
Your Pastor, Father Joe
