February 16

Dear Parishioners of St. Joseph the Worker:

This Monday, February 17th, is Presidents’ Day.  This annual holiday is a combination of the two former holidays— President Abraham Lincoln Day and President George Washington Day.  These two presidents are probably the most famous of our 47 country’s leaders.  As a country, we owe them and the others who have led us our gratitude for their service to America.  What a monumental task to be the leader of our great country, and to be the foremost leader in the known world.

Presidents’ Day should call us to pray for our nation’s leaders, whether at the national, state, or local level.  We should pray for the present and future of America.  May it continue to be best country it can be.  Perfect?  No.  But would you want to live anywhere else?

Let us reflect on the word PRESIDENT—

P    is for POWER.  May it be used to promote life, peace, and justice.

R    is for RELIGION.  May it always be respected.

E    is for EVERYONE.  May all feel welcomed.

S    is for SIMPLE.  May issues look to being resolved in an easy way.

I     is for INGENUITY.  May that be the mark of anyone who leads us.

D   is for DIVISION.  May it never be seen or practiced.

E    is for END.  May negativity in America cease.

N   is for NOW.  May we work this day to help each other.

T    is for TIME.  Now is the moment to be the best citizen ever.

For our President, Governor, and Mayor:

For national, state, and local representatives:

For all citizens of the United States:

For America to shine forth as the republic that ensures democracy and freedom:

LET US PRAY!

Your Pastor, Father Joe
