Dear Parishioners of St. Joseph the Worker:
Say good-bye to Ordinary Time come this Wednesday! Why is that? Because, in several days we enter the season of Lent. Are you ready to have ashes imposed on your forehead as we celebrate Ash Wednesday?
Please join us for Masses this Wednesday, February 18th, at 8:30 am and 5:30 pm. Even though it isn’t a holy day on our liturgical calendar, it is still one of the holiest days of the year. On this day, we are signed with ashes. The ashes tell the world that we, as Catholic Christians, begin the journey of 40 days with our Lord. As ashes are the result of something
“giving up its life,” so, too, we begin to get rid of, to give up some sin that keeps us from living the faithful life Jesus calls us to live.
Are you ready for this Lenten trek of reform, renewal, reconciliation, contrition?
Are you committed to giving up whatever is in the way of your relationship with Christ?
Are you willing to look in the mirror of your soul and see what you see?
Are you able to shed whatever sin is the most prevalent or worst in your life now?
Are you strong enough to resist temptation over the next 40 days?
Are you prepared to spend time with Jesus in prayers, adoration, spiritual reading?
Are you resolved to keep your Lenten resolutions?
Are you on your way to being a better Catholic come Easter?
Are you yearning to grow closer to the Lord?
Please peruse the insert in the bulletin concerning our Lenten activities and extra services. May each one of us have a very LENTEN attitude over the next 40 days.
Your “Lenten Leader,”
Father Joe
