Dear St. Joseph the Worker Parishioners:
Welcome to the 3rd week of Advent! This is our GAUDETE week, the time of REJOICING. Our season of expectation and waiting is half over.
How have we used the past two weeks of preparing for the celebration of our Lord’s birth? How have we used the past two weeks of preparing our souls for the Second Coming of our Lord at the end of time? The days of the Advent season are precious ones for us as Catholics. Amidst the busyness and hectic feeling of these December days, we are called to take some time to just be with our Lord in prayer and presence. Let us have nothing get in the way of us and Jesus, the One born in Bethlehem. Nothing is more important than our relationship with the Savior.
So—during this week of rejoicing, may each of us do just that and REJOICE in the Lord. May we be those GAUDETE people each and every day. The world needs more joy and happiness, to say the least. We need to be those people who bring the world from its darkness into the light of Christ.
Let us reflect on that joyful Latin word—
G is for the GOOD that our Catholic faith brings us.
A is for the AWESOMENESS of Jesus Christ.
U is for the UNIQUENESS of each of us.
D is for the DAILY prayer we should do in God’s sight.
E is for the EUCHARIST and its power in our lives.
T is for the TROUBLE we should take in getting closer to the Lord.
E is for the ETERNITY that awaits us.
May we continue our Advent journey, confident that the remaining days will enrich our spiritual lives.
Your Advent Companion, Father Joe
