December 1

Dear Parishioners of St. Joseph the Worker:

Welcome to the month of December!  Welcome to the season of Advent!  Welcome to a new liturgical year!

We begin our Church’s year of celebration by entering that special and holy season of Advent, in which we remember the expectation of the Lord’s first coming as we await His second coming at the end of time.

We have several weeks to reflect upon what God promised the world—a Savior to save us from our sins. These days given to us by our Church are ones we should cherish and use to grow closer to the Lord who came among us.  This time of Advent enables each of us to pray and prepare for His coming in glory.  How will we do that?

Will we come to Adoration when offered?

Will we pray a Rosary each day of Advent?

Will we read during these days from the Prophet Isaiah about the coming of the Lord?

Will we sit in silence these December days and listen to the Lord speak to us?

Will we do something extra special for someone in our life?

Will we give our time, talent, and treasure during Advent to our parish and a charity?

Will we confess our sins through the Sacrament of Reconciliation?

Will we come on a weekday and celebrate the Eucharist?

Will we pray for more Catholics to come home to the Church during Advent and Christmas?

Will we not let the busyness and materialism of these days overtake us?

May we use the gift of the Advent season to grow in our faith; to nurture our faith more each day; to deepen the importance of our faith in our life; to be ever more thankful for our Catholic faith and its effect on our heart and soul.

Have a prayerful 1st Week of Advent!

Your Advent Companion, Father Joe
