Parishioners of SJW:

This Sunday, September 18th, is Catechetical Sunday in our Catholic Church.  This is a weekend to celebrate in a special way those men and women who teach in our parish.  These fellow parishioners give of their time and talent to ensure that our young and adults learn and experience the Catholic faith.  We are ever indebted to them.

In a special way, I want to thank Janice Anderson, our Faith Formation Director, who works diligently during the year to help our young people grow in the faith and feel the Lord’s presence more & more in their daily lives.  She does so much for them.  Also, I thank Dawn Roesch, our Youth Coordinator, for her work with our high school youth, giving them time to experience Jesus Christ as they journey in their lives of being young adult Catholics.  I thank our Sacramental Coordinator, Cindy Essex, for her work with those preparing for Confirmation and 1st Communion.  I am also grateful to Cindy for continuing to instruct those couples preparing to have their child baptized in the Catholic Church.  Thanks to Anna Barham, who will be shadowing Cindy these next months, so that she will be prepared to take her place early next year.  And, kudos to those adults who lead a Bible Study groups, whether on Tuesday mornings or during the fall & spring seasons.  How appreciative I am for the catechists in our FF who come each week to teach and witness to the faith, and to their aides who do the same.

This Catechetical Sunday should lead us to ponder how we are growing in our faith.  Are we?  When is the last time we have taken a class in the parish to further our faith knowledge?  Or the last time we have read a spiritual book?

Also, how are we being those teachers of Jesus Christ through our example and witness as we journey through life?

May Jesus Christ, THE teacher, inspire us to learn, thereby being able to share what we have learned.

Your pastor, Father Joe
