Dear Parishioners of St. Joseph the Worker:

We ended the Easter season last weekend with the Solemnity of Pentecost.  This weekend we celebrate the Solemnity of the Holy Trinity.  The Holy Trinity is one of the greatest and deepest mysteries of our Catholic faith.  How can God be One in Nature, yet Three in Persons?  It is one of those questions that we mere mortals cannot fully understand.  But, God didn’t just abandon us with that mystery—He gave us the gift of FAITH to cope with mysteries such as this.  We can reply just like Thomas did: “Lord, help my unbelief.”

GOD AS FATHER.  Think about what you would want a father to be.  What qualities would be at the top of your list?  God our Father has infinite amount of qualities that make Him literally, the Perfect Father.  Always reaching out with guidance, love, sacrifice, counsel, nurturing.

GOD AS SON.  One of the wonderful blessings in life is to have a child.  And to have a son is such a joy.  God wanted us to experience His Son, Jesus Christ.  The Son who brought joy to Mary and Joseph.  The Son who showed the world compassion and mercy and forgiveness.  The Son who gave of Himself for us, his loving family.

GOD AS SPIRIT.  To have someone’s spirit in you is to have them present in your life.  God wanted us to have the Holy Spirit, His continuing presence.  So, the Holy Spirit was given on Pentecost in a very special way.  And that Spirit lives on in our Church.  That Spirit is able to be seen in us if we breathe in the presence of God through His Holy Spirit.

The Holy Trinity.  The Mystery of God being One Nature, yet Three Persons.  This is the great tenet of our Catholic faith in which we are to believe, and the reality for which we are to give thanks.

GLORY TO THE FATHER, AND TO THE SON, AND TO THE HOLY SPIRIT, AS IT WAS IN THE BEGINNING, IS NOW, AND WILL BE FOREVER.  AMEN.

Your Pastor, Father Joe
