Dear SJW Parishioners:

We enter our 5th week of Lent.  Our 40-day journey is coming to an end soon.  SO—let us continue to change our hearts, better our lives, grow in holiness, deepen our prayer, and be sacrificing followers of Christ.  May we open our hearts and souls to the mercy of Jesus Christ.  He is calling us to come closer to Him through the confession of our sins.  He is calling us to accept any crosses in our lives, as did He.  Jesus is our model for total giving, total sacrifice, total obedience, and total love.

As we enter this new week of Lent, we have several non-obligatory Memorials of Saints.  Non-obligatory means that a priest is not obligated to celebrate that Saint during Mass that day, but he may.  I will choose not to, but I thought it would be good to share a little about three Saints this week who you may not know about.

ISIDORE, BISHOP---Feast Day is April 4th. He died in 636. He was the bishop of Seville, following his brother in that post.  He led the Council of Toledo in 631.  During his life, he tried to quell the rise of Arianism in Spain.

VINCENT FERRER, PRIEST---Feast Day is April 5th. He was a Dominican priest who died in the year 1419 in Brittany. Known as a gifted orator and preacher, he worked endlessly for the unity of the Church.

JOHN BAPTIST DE LA SALLE, PRIEST---Feast Day is April 7th. He was a wealthy man who gave up all his fortune and founded a community of brothers to teach in Christian Schools, the Christian Brothers as we know them. Today, there are almost 5,000 in the community worldwide.  He is the patron of teachers.

May these three Saints inspire us to be holy followers of the same Christ they followed.

Your Pastor,

Father Joe
