August 13

Dear Parishioners of St. Joseph the Worker:

Good August week to you!  Summer is winding down way too quickly.  School is on the near horizon.  May it be a great year for all students and teachers.

This Sunday, Aug. 13th, is a very important day in our country.  Why?  It is LEFT-HANDED DAY!  Being a left-hander, it is RIGHT that we celebrate.  Sorry—just had to say that.  To all those who share this day with me—RIGHT on!  Again, sorry.  HA!

On a serious note, this coming Tuesday, Aug. 15th, is a HOLY DAY of OBLIGATION to celebrate the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary into heaven.  Masses here at SJW will be at 8:30am & 5:30pm.  The Church calls us to celebrate this special day in honor of Mary, the Mother of God, who was assumed body & soul into heaven.  Let us be in church that day to honor her & to give worship to God.

Just a reminder of the 5 Holy Days we have during our liturgical year: January 1st—Mary, the Mother of God;

August 15th—Assumption of Mary; November 1st—All Saints; December 8th—Immaculate Conception;

December 25th—Christmas.

The Church has these special Holy Days to remind us of an event or a belief that is paramount in our Faith.  That Mary is the true Mother of God.  That she was given that special privilege of being assumed body & soul into heaven, & that she was conceived without sin in order to bring the sinless Jesus Christ into our world.  That we honor all those men & women who have been declared Saints.  And that we celebrate always the Incarnation of Jesus Christ.

And what better way to celebrate & give honor & praise than through the Mass.  Please see evermore the value, importance, necessity of the Eucharist in the life of any Catholic.  During this Year of the Eucharist, may we all come to know that each time we gather at Mass as the Body of Christ to receive the Body of Christ is a day of HOLINESS.  Wouldn’t you agree?

Your Pastor,

Father Joe
