April 14

Dear Parishioners of SJW Parish:

ALLEULIA!  We continue our journey through the Easter season.  We continue to celebrate the wonderful miracle of the Resurrection.  We continue to be grateful that the Lord Jesus is alive for us in our world.  We continue to ring out “ALLELUIA” to all those we meet.

These 50 days of Easter we are in right now call us to be those rejoicing disciples of the Risen One.  The hope and peace and joy of the Empty Tomb should fill our souls.  The world needs us to be those Easter people, drowning out the negative, the cynicism, the hopelessness.  As followers of Jesus Christ, our task is to show through the way we live the glory of Easter Sunday each Sunday and each day we live.  Will we be up to that task?

Let us recommit ourselves to our baptismal promises.  That way, we can be each day of the Easter season those Catholics who see the call to stand up for Christ in our workplace or classroom or home.  The promise of the Resurrection should empower us and encourage us to be those modern day apostles, ready to show the world the Christ who gave His life for the salvation of the world.

Let us never be ashamed of our Catholic faith.  Let us never shy away from witnessing to what the Lord calls us to do.  Let us never give in to the whims of the world over the rock solid foundations of our faith.

What the Lord did for us defies the imagination at times.  He—innocent—suffered, died, and rose to take away our sins and to give us new life.  He did all this for us—the guilty.  He loved us so much that our salvation and our future in heaven guided Him through the Passion and into Easter Sunday.  How grateful, how appreciative, how humbled we should be.  Will we be all those things, and more?

May this Third Week of Easter draw us closer to Jesus Christ.  May this Third Week of Easter guide us into deeper faith.  May this Third Week of Easter enhance our prayer.

Your Pastor, Father Joe

P.S.  This Sunday, April 14th, TRENTON CATTOOR will become an Eagle Scout here at SJW.  What an honor for him and for our parish, as another young man marks a milestone in his life—that of earning and attaining the rank of Eagle Scout.  Way to go, Trenton!  We are proud of you and of all your accomplishments.  That is the third young man from SJW in the current CGHS Senior class to attain such an honor, the other two being Xavier Try and Gavin Davis.
