Dear Parishioners of St. Joseph the Worker:

Welcome to the 18th Week of Ordinary Time!  We keep progressing through our summer months of Ordinary Time quickly, it seems.  May this week be one of faith, peace, and joy for all of you.

Let’s see what Saints/Feasts we are celebrating over the next days---

August 1st: St. Alphonsus Liguori was a Bishop and Doctor of the Church, having lived in the 18th century.  He was a lawyer who founded the Redemptorist Order, C.SS.R., who have around 5,500 members worldwide.  He is the patron of moral theologians and confessors.

August 4th:  St. John Vianney was a priest who lived in Ars, France in the 19th century, having died in 1859.  He was known as a very compassionate spiritual counselor and a great confessor.  He would spend many hours, up to 11 or 15 hours a day hearing confessions.  He is the patron saint of parish priests and clergy.

August 6th:  Feast of the Transfiguration of the Lord is when the Lord was glorified on Mount Tabor.  To give the apostles hope that His suffering and death wouldn’t be the final outcome, Jesus was transfigured, changed, into a glorified being, which foreshadowed His Resurrection.

On another note, this coming Saturday, August 6th is the annual SJW Mass in the Grass at the K.C. Lake Club, beginning with Mass at 4:30 p.m. and followed by food and fun.  Having experienced my first one last year, it was a wonderful event for our parish.  Please try to come---you won’t be disappointed, I can assure you.  Good Mass, good food, good people, and I am working on having good weather.  Praying and lighting candles for that one---ha!!!

May you grow closer to the Lord and to your commitment to the Eucharist each day!

Your Pastor,

Father Joe
