Altar Service Ministry

Beginning with fifth graders and open to all ages, our parishioners have the special opportunity to expand their faith by ministering to the needs of the celebrant and congregation during Mass. This is a terrific occasion to develop and hone the skills of timeliness, focus, and commitment, while growing in a fuller understanding of the meaning of the holy Eucharist. It is also a unique opportunity for family members to serve together. Training is provided. Altar servers must be willing to serve approximately once a month on a rotating basis

Church Environment

We have a small group of people at St. Joseph’s who share their artistic talents with the parish to create the seasonal and other environments for the worship space and church areas.  Some are flower arrangers; others are talented with needle and thread or other creative media.  This group works under the auspices of the Director of Music Ministries and their work complements the liturgical celebrations.

Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion (Eucharistic Ministers)

Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion help the priest and/or deacon distribute the Eucharist.  To be an Extraordinary Minister, one must have received the Sacrament of Confirmation and have a love and reverence for the Eucharist.  Training sessions are required and guidelines are provided.  Extraordinary Ministers are scheduled approximately once a month on a rotating basis.

Hospitality Ministers

Hospitality Ministers are an integral part of the faith community. They share the warmth and welcoming spirit of St. Joseph’s with all who enter for prayer and worship.  They provide assistance to those who have special needs and help find seats for people when necessary.  They take up collections and hand out bulletins.  Helpful guidelines are provided.  Individuals, couples, and families are welcome as Hospitality Ministers. They are scheduled on a rotating basis.

Lectors

Lectors proclaim the first two readings at Mass each weekend and on Holy Days during the liturgical year.  Lectors commit time during the week to practice the reading prior to Mass.  Training sessions and guidelines are provided.  Lectors are scheduled on a rotating basis, approximately once a month.

Liturgy Committee

The liturgy is the summit toward which the activity of the Church is directed. It is the fount from which all the Church’s power flows. The Liturgy Committee plans prepares, implements, evaluates and educates about all aspects of liturgy so that our diverse community can fully, actively and consciously worship.

Sacristans

The sacristans are responsible for the contents of our parish that are used for worship. Sacristans at St. Joseph assist the community in caring for the altar candles, laundering and ironing Mass linens and acolyte and priest albs.
