One of the traditional Lenten readings is the story of Moses and the burning bush. Moses could have said, “Big deal!” He could have thought, “It’s none of my business. “ Instead he let his curiosity get the better of him. How does God get our attention this Lent? God continues to be creative and uses modern media—the words or melody of a song, the ideas of a book, the action of a movie, the concerns of a news paper article, or the people who brighten our days and nights. Perhaps it is an entire holy season that begins with burned ash and ends with a new fire at the Easter Vigil. It was curiosity that gave a whole new way of life to God’s people. This Lent, heighten your curiosity—let it bring out the best in you—prayer, fasting, charity. |
